Healing in His Hands: Trusting Jesus to Mend Your Brokenness

Jill Hatchett

When life leaves us feeling shattered, the pieces of our hearts, minds, and spirits can feel irreparable. Yet, Jesus, the Great Physician, holds the power to heal, restore, and renew us in ways that no one else can. Trusting Him to mend our brokenness is both a step of faith and an invitation for deep, transformative healing. In this blog, we’ll explore how Jesus can restore even the most broken parts of us and how we can actively embrace His healing hands in our lives.

Understanding Jesus as the Ultimate Healer

Throughout the Gospels, Jesus healed countless people from physical ailments, mental struggles, and spiritual wounds. His healing ministry was not limited to curing disease; it reached the depths of human suffering, offering restoration to broken spirits and wounded hearts. When we place our trust in Him, we allow Him to reach those places of brokenness within us, just as He did for others during His time on earth.

Biblical Example: One of the most powerful examples of Jesus’ healing power is the story of the woman with the issue of blood (Mark 5:25-34). After twelve years of suffering, she reached out in faith and touched His garment, believing that even the smallest connection to Jesus could heal her. She trusted that Jesus could do what no one else could. Her faith was rewarded, and Jesus not only healed her body but publicly affirmed her faith, saying, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.”

Steps to Trust Him with Your Pain

Trusting Jesus with our pain can feel daunting, especially when we’ve experienced deep hurts. It requires letting go of our urge to control the healing process and instead leaning on His promises. Here are some steps to begin trusting Him with your pain:

  • Acknowledge the Need for Healing: Start by being honest with yourself and with Jesus about your pain. Bring your brokenness to Him in prayer, just as David did in the Psalms. "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18). This acknowledgment is a powerful step toward healing.

  • Surrender Control: Often, we want to fix our own problems or avoid them altogether. Surrendering means releasing our grip on the outcome and trusting Jesus to handle it in His way and timing. Remind yourself of Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

  • Choose to Forgive: If part of your brokenness involves pain inflicted by others, Jesus invites you to walk the path of forgiveness. Forgiveness is often difficult, but by forgiving, you release the burden of resentment and allow Jesus to heal those wounds fully.

Inviting Jesus into Your Healing Process

Healing is an active journey that often requires us to invite Jesus to walk alongside us, trusting that His presence can bring peace and restoration. Here are some ways to let Him in:

  • Pray for Healing Daily: Make it a habit to seek Jesus in prayer, asking for His healing touch. Be specific in your requests, whether you’re asking for comfort, peace, or courage. Jesus says in Matthew 7:7, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.” Consistent prayer strengthens your relationship with Him and reminds you of His constant presence.

  • Seek His Word: Scripture is a healing balm for the soul. The Bible contains countless verses that offer comfort and hope in times of despair. Consider reading Psalm 147:3, which says, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds,” or Isaiah 61:1, where Jesus declares His purpose “to bind up the brokenhearted.” Let these promises sink into your spirit.

  • Meditate on His Promises: Meditation is a powerful way to reflect on God's promises. Spend a few minutes each day meditating on verses that speak of healing and restoration. Imagine Jesus gently holding the parts of you that feel broken and trusting Him to renew them.

Faith-Based Practices to Foster Healing

Integrating faith-based practices into your healing journey can deepen your trust in Jesus and create space for His healing to work in your life.

  • Journaling: Documenting your thoughts and emotions can help you process your pain and recognize areas where Jesus is working. Write down your prayers, moments of struggle, and areas where you see God’s hand moving in your life. Reflecting on these entries over time can be an encouragement, showing you how far you’ve come.

  • Worship: Worship is a way to connect with Jesus on a deep, personal level. By focusing on His goodness and singing His praises, you can experience a release from the weight of your pain. Worship reminds you that Jesus is worthy of your trust and that He is greater than any brokenness you feel.

  • Community Support: Seek out a faith community that can pray with you and support you on this journey. Healing is often bolstered by those around us who share our faith and encourage us to keep trusting in Jesus.

Scriptures to Anchor Your Faith in His Healing Power

Scripture reassures us that Jesus is not only willing but fully able to heal our hearts, minds, and spirits. Consider these verses as you embark on your healing journey:

  • Matthew 11:28-30 – “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” This is an open invitation to bring your pain to Jesus and allow Him to carry it with you.

  • Jeremiah 30:17 – “For I will restore health to you, and your wounds I will heal, declares the Lord.” God’s promise of restoration is a reminder that your pain will not last forever.

  • Psalm 73:26 – “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Even in moments of weakness, God is your strength.

Embracing Jesus’ Healing Power Daily

Healing doesn’t always happen overnight; it’s often a gradual journey. Each day, take time to trust Jesus anew, to invite Him into your moments of weakness, and to remind yourself that He is working, even when you don’t see it. When you feel weary, turn to Him and let Him restore your strength. Jesus longs to see you whole, not only physically but also spiritually and emotionally. His healing is complete, reaching to the deepest parts of who you are.

As you walk this journey of healing, remember that Jesus sees every broken piece of you, and He loves you just the same. You are never beyond His reach. When you place your trust in Jesus, you are placing your brokenness in the most capable hands. Let Him transform your pain, restore your heart, and renew your spirit as you experience the boundless love and healing that only He can provide.

Trust in His hands, and you’ll find healing like never before.
